It seems the app is still crashing when clicking on medium level. Any other works fine.
When tapping medium the initial flare seems to get stuck and when there is no further
response I belive iPhone chooses to kill the app entirely. My suggestion would be to
do away with the flare since it seems it causes the app to fail. I don't know if it is a draw
issue but since it seems to be working fine once you pass that part I am wondering if
too big changes on the screen causes some bufferoverrun or something like that?
In any case it is annoying not to be able to play so I have removed the app from my Iphone.
Btw, it is a 3G model, not the 3Gs. Also the game worked fine before the 1.4 update.
You should follow me on twitter here!
The app keeps crashing for me as well :(
OS 3.1.2, iPhone 3G
Since it didn't want to work I removed & redownloaded the game and it worked fine - but only until a score has been saved (OF is disabled) -
what I mean is - for example as long as I haven't played any hard levels, everything works fine. Once I finish any hard level, the game crashes in the menu (the same way as MichaelT stated above). Even though the game crashes once I choose 'hard' in the menus, easy & medium still work - that is until I go through any level - then it's the same story all over again.
I can't play my geoDefence and that ain't healthy!
The same seems to happen for me. I also re downloaded the game and found out i could play, until à score has been saved.
To clearify: with alls score deleted i can start any level. I started on the first level on easy, it sent well, so did 2 and 3 then i took a break and when i now try to play easy the game shuts down. However i can play on mediu
and hard, since they dont have any scores saved. I downloaded the fusion map(what à great one) and got a score saved.. This is the only score saved on medium atm. And i can still choose medium without the game shutting down, now when i scroll the level list down to the last level before fusion its all good(Those levels dont have any scores) but scroll a little bitmore and it shuts down. Just when it tryes to list a level with a score. If i now save a score to for example level 2 in medium i vant enter medium at all any more since its on the first page.. Very wierd bug here :)
im using 3gs btw and this post got far to long to be healthy for My poor thumbs :)
Same for me. As long as I haven't completed any levels on a difficulty setting, I can choose that difficulty. When I have completed a level on a difficuulty setting, quit and choose the same difficulty, the game seems to freeze for a split second (on the screen where it lists the maps and scores), then quits. Great game otherwise, but this makes it unplayable.
Oh i hope David Will read this soon and make a fix for it.. My nerves doesnt like it when they dont get their daily gd dosage :)
I'm going to jump on debugging these issues the moment I get back from GDC.
It's inconsistent. But there's enough feedback here for me to get a general pattern of it I think.

I would be glad to help out if i can :)
I'll start by gicing some more detailed information. I have the latest iPhone OS, 3Gs 16GB, and use Swedish "settings" if that could somehow be of interest.
I have the 3gs 32gb with firmware 3.1.2 and also swedish settings :)
I had the same problem and I used Finnish as my region format, but when I changed my region format to United States game didn't crash anymore. When I change my settings back to Finland the app crashes again so it has to be something with the region format.. And I have 3GS 32 gb.
I can verify that changing region format from Sweden to US did work.
(Still in swedish region format:)I can also add that after finishing one mission on medium it would immediately cause the app to fail again next time around. But as I mentioned, changing to US format allowed me to play again. I can't however say that this is a workaround as it still might crash at a later state.
Great! This is exactly the info I needed. I was trying all yesterday to repo this and couldn't.... knowing this, I can track this down now!
Thank you for finding the key to this problem!

Switching to other languages, I get odd results in the display of numbers but not a crash.
But I think I fixed it by forcing Engish US locale for formatting of the numbers (I think this is related to the fact that my graphics fonts don't have the range of, say, unicode).
In any event, I could use help testing this. Can one or more of you who are experiencing crashing (due to the language thing) participate in a test? If so, I need your Device UDID sent to me in email (use the contact form on this stie) and I can send you an AdHoc build to try out.

Hmm where do i find that udid? :)
I can also verify that switching region format from Swedish to United States solves the problem.
I think the bug should be easy to reproduce.
1) Switch to Swedish region format.
2) Record a personal high score on some map.
3) Exit Geodefence Swarm
4) Start Geodefence Swarm
5) Try to browse to the same map that a high score was recorded on. It should crash while doing so.
In addition to the problem above I have noticed some strange behaviour with high scores. I recorded a new high score of 27508600 on the new Fusion map "Crossed Wires" but it didn't register on open feint.
Then I recorded a new high score that was less than what I previously had recorded on open feint, and it said "New High Score" even if it was less than both my open feint registered high score and the not registered high score.
Since then I have beaten the high score and now my phone and open feint shows the same score.
